Cohort 2025

Scaling Up Sustainable Leadership Across the MENA Region

Cohort 2025 represents a transformational leap forward for OML MENA—a scaling-up milestone that turns the program's 2030 vision into tangible reality. This year's fellowship is guided by bold ambitions that underscore its expanded scope and profound commitment to empowering youth at unprecedented scale.
150 Fellows Selected
1000+ Champions Mentored
25 Community Projects
21 Arab Countries

A Diverse and Dynamic Applicant Pool

The first phase of Cohort 2025 kicked off with an outpouring of interest from across the Middle East and North Africa. The Phase 1 screening drew 498 registrations from aspiring young leaders, covering 21 out of 22 Arab countries. This cohort welcomed several new countries into the fold—for the first time, youth from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Oman joined their peers in applying to the fellowship.
The demographics reveal a rich tapestry of backgrounds unified by a passion for sustainability. The average age of applicants hovered around 25-27 years old, with participants as young as 18 and as seasoned as 37. Applications came from bustling capitals and small towns alike, with major urban centers like Cairo, Tunis, Casablanca, and Beirut among the top sources of applicants.

Academic Excellence: About 40.7% hold a Bachelor's degree, 37.8% have a Master's degree, and around 7.4% boast a PhD. Prominent disciplines include Computer Science, Business Management, Renewable Energy Engineering, environmental science, social sciences, and public policy—creating tremendous cross-pollination of ideas.

Intensive Training Program: Phase 1 Foundations

Running from January to July 2025, Phase 1 was a rigorous, immersive training experience structured around five core learning pillars. Rather than dry classroom sessions, the training was a dynamic blend of workshops, expert talks, group projects, and personal reflection.
1

OML Values and Purpose

Fellows explored the ethos behind One Million Leaders, learning about collaboration, integrity, and vision while reflecting on their personal ikigai in serving society and the planet.

2

Sustainability Essentials

Comprehensive understanding of sustainability fundamentals, from climate science to social inequalities, including key megatrends like population growth, urbanization, and technological disruption.

3

Ethical Leadership

Focus on ethical and transformational leadership, emphasizing integrity, accountability, and respect. Fellows examined case studies and heard inspiring sessions from Peter David Pedersen and OML alumni.

4

Social Innovation & AI

Introduction to social entrepreneurship and AI integration as tools for good. Fellows brainstormed project ideas and received mentorship from entrepreneurs and tech experts.

5

Personal Wellbeing

Dedicated focus on personal growth, resilience, and mental health. Fellows learned stress management, work-life balance, mindfulness, and self-care techniques.

From Fellowship to Action: Phases 2 & 3

With Phase 1 training completed in July, about 100 outstanding fellows graduated and earned the title of OML MENA Fellows. This milestone marked not an end, but the beginning of their real-world impact journey through the action-oriented phases ahead.
Phase 2

In-Country Sessions & Champion Training

Fellows organize sustainability workshops in their home countries, training local "champions"—young people who become part of the extended OML family. The goal is to collectively train over 1,000 regional champions, roughly 10 or more per fellow.

Phase 3

"Time for Action" - Community Projects

Together with trained champions, fellows identify pressing local challenges and develop community project initiatives. OML MENA will support at least 25 of these projects across the region with mentorship, seed funding, and resources.

By early 2026, when Cohort 2025 formally concludes, we anticipate a thriving alumni network of 100+ fellows, a first-tier network of 1000+ champions, and dozens of community initiatives blossoming under their stewardship.

Powered by Partnership

The generous backing of the Mitsubishi Corporation Foundation for EMEA has been cornerstone to our success. This partnership goes beyond funding—it's a relationship built on shared values and a common vision for empowering the next generation. Together, we're planting seeds of change in the fertile ground of Middle Eastern and North African youth passion and creativity.

Join the Movement

The story of Cohort 2025 is still being written, and its most exciting chapters are yet to come. Follow our journey, collaborate with us, and be part of building a million young leaders by 2030.
